One of the funniest things about the homeless in Japan is that they live at a different level of poverty than in the rest of the world. Just goes to show you how advanced Japan really is. For example this morning consisted of a trip to Ohori park in Fukuoka and the remains of the city castle, the park was quite nice and busy as one would expect from a Sunday morning. Fukuoka castle on the other hand is not touted as a rebuilt or ferro concrete reconstruction as most others in Japan and is therefor not as visited by the weekend crowds. Fukuoka Castle is merely the remains of the castle grounds including the walls and moat with nothing remaining of the original castle. Once we arrived at the site we discovered that there were a huge number of “homeless” living around the remains, only there not quite so homeless after all. Many have huge tarp buildings set up with clothes racks and porches outside and we even saw one on a cell phone! None the less what remains of the castle walls is quite stunning, it must have been a sight to see in in it’s prime.
After leaving the castle remains we walked around the city a little more and ended up back at canal city, it seems to be a nice place to relax and grab a bite to eat… usually. Today it was filled with cheerleaders and old women doing what we can only assume to be dance routines, or workout’s maybe? Carolyn’s been trying to find clothing from here but she says everything looks slutty or wouldn’t fit her.
Tonight for dinner we decided to head to the grocery store and pick up a few things, to my surprise they actually had Budweiser in a can! It wasn’t quite the same as back home but it was better than all of the other things they try to pass off as beer in this country.
