Well, Mike and I had another big day of walking around, although we always say we’re going to take it easy. We started off by heading to a couple of shrines that were near us – one of them was so small or poorly marked we must’ve walked right by it, and the other wasn’t really anything special even though it was supposed to be a National Heritage site. After that, we had plans to head over to a shopping street and robosquare. The only problem with that was that they moved robosquare to another part of town! So we walked down the shopping street and both of us bought two tea containers each. We decided from there that we might as well go to the other part of town and find robosquare, as well as get some lunch and check out the view of Fukuoka from a 35 story building near the waterfront. We must have come on a bad day though, because there were a lot of people in dressy outfits, we felt like we were intruding but the information people welcomed us in. So we got a couple of pictures of the view and left the building. We went and found robosquare, but it wasn’t as exciting as we had hoped. It was actually pretty small, and they just had a bunch of robots on pedestals with explanations in Japanese (of course). There was this one little robot that one of the salesladies was playing with and it could get up on it’s own, as well as act like a dog or chicken, and breakdance. And those were only things that we saw it doing! But it was over $300 so you know we didn’t get it. So we headed back to the hostel on the subway line, and we stopped at an electronics store where I picked up a couple of little things and Mike got two of those mini-sharpies with the ring on the end so he can attach it to his bag. All in all, it was a pretty uneventful day, with just a bunch of walking and some shopping.
Today we’re headed to see the ruins of Fukuoka castle and a big park that’s near it. Hopefully we’ll have some nice pictures from it to show you!
